Man Arrested For Killing Two Minor Sons To Get Married Again In Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: Fategarh police arrested a person on charges of strangling his two sons to death and then hanging their bodies to make it look like a suicide. As per reports, a 14-year-old boy and his 12-year-old brother were found hanging by their family members at Dhananchengada village under Fategarh police station in Nayagarh district on March 10. Police, upon being informed, seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. However, the deceased siblings’ uncle, Laxman Nayak, filed a complaint accusing his brother-in-law, Prakash Mohanty, of murdering his nephews and then hanging their bodies to make it look like a suicide. Based on Laxman’s complaint, police detained Prakash and his mother. During interrogation, Prakash confessed to having killed his minor sons with the help of his mother, Souri Mohanty. Police investigation revealed that Prakash’s first wife had passed away two and a half years ago, and he had been living with his parents and two sons, Akash and Bikash, in Dhanchangada village. However, Prakash had been planning to remarry, which was strongly opposed by his elder son Akash. On March 9, 2025, a group of people from Bhubaneswar visited Prakash’s house to discuss his proposed marriage. Later that night, Prakash and his mother, Souri, allegedly conspired to kill the two boys to eliminate the opposition to his second marriage. As per reports, Prakash and Souri strangled the boys and hung their bodies from a beam in the house to make it appear like a suicide in the dead of night. Prakash then left the house, and Souri alerted the neighbours at 5 am the next morning, claiming that the boys had taken their own lives. Police arrested Prakash and Souri and produced them in court after they confessed to their crime.
