Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed in the state assembly on Monday that 47 drowning deaths have occurred at Puri beach and other coastal areas over the past five years. Responding to a query from BJP MLA Om Prakash Mishra, the CM said the government has stepped up safety measures, including regular patrolling along shorelines, identifying and marking dangerous swimming zones, and running public awareness campaigns about risky areas. Additionally, Fire Services personnel and Home Guards have been deployed as lifeguards with rescue equipment to respond to emergencies. “These measures are being implemented to enhance tourist safety at our beaches,” Majhi stated.
