Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has prepared a big plan to control the rising crime rate in the capital. Bhubaneswar urban police is reportedly to be divided into two parts. As per reports, keeping in the increasing number of population as well as crime, the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) will be divided into two zone. Bhubaneswar East and Bhubaneswar West UPDs will be formed. Also, two DCPs will be in charge of each of these two UPDs. Further, each of these UPDs will have 3 zones. Bhubaneswar East UPD will have Zone-1, Zone-2 and Zone-4 while the Zone-3, Zone-5 and Zone-6 will be under Bhubaneswar West UPD. The process in this regard has already been started. The approval of the Home Department is awaited in this regard. According to data, when the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissionerate was formed in 2008, the population of the capital was 12,66,340. By 2024, the population of Bhubaneswar has more than doubled to 27,64,488. Keeping in mind the increasing crimes as well as law and order situation, and VVIP visits to the city, the Commissionerate Police has prepared a blueprint for such a change.
