Justice Yashwant Varma row: President of Allahabad Bar Association opines on transfer

Delhi: In a latest development in the Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma row, the Allahabad Bar Association has protested the transfer to the High Court. The President of Allahabad High Court Bar Association Anil Tiwari told ANI, ” The main thing is that, our fight is not against any judge but against system. There are hard-working judges here, now their image is in danger.” He further added, “Allahabad High Court is being considered as a dumping ground. If a court judge is being transferred for corruption charges, he is being transferred to Allahabad HC, the Supreme Court knows the condition of Allahabad HC.” He further added, “Instead of resolving the defect, if you transfer further defective people here, the system will collapse.” On Monday, the Supreme Court Collegium had issued a resolution recommending transfer of Justice Yashwant Varma, back to his parent court, the Allahabad High Court. According to reports, the Supreme Court Collegium issued a resolution recommending transfer of Justice Varma, Judge of High Court of Delhi, back to his parent court, the Allahabad High Court. It is worth mentioning here that in the Justice Yashwant Varma row, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association had raised an objection over the Supreme Court Collegium’s decision to transfer Justice Varma to Allahabad High Court. The letter issued by the Supreme Court read, “The Supreme Court Collegium in its meetings held on 20th and 24th March 2025 has recommended repatriation of Mr. Justice Yashwant Varma, Judge, High Court of Delhi, to the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad.”
