Rourkela: A six-member team of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) today visited the Rourkela Airport and conducted a survey for the upgradation of the airport. As per the direction of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, a six members of the Airports Authority of India reached the airport this morning and reviewed the situation for the upgradation of the airport. The also reportedly held a meeting with the officials of the Rourkela airport and conducted a survey of all the possibilities for the expansion and night landing system at the airport. It is to be noted here that Usha Padhee, the Principal secretary to Commerce and Transport department of Odisha government last month had sent a proposal to the AAI for Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey and upgrade the Rourkela airport for 4C 1 CAT IFR operation. Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, who also belongs to the locality, had discussed about it with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The Odisha government has been demanding for the upgradation of the Rourkela airport in view of the growth of the Steel City. It has proposed to expand the runway to 2,700 metre in length and 45 metre in width with Doppler Very high frequency Omni Range (DVOR) and CAT 1 ILS for operation of big planes both in day and night.
