Doctor Convicted Of Bribery, Sentenced To Three Years In Prison

Bhubaneswar: A doctor has been convicted of bribery and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years by a special vigilance court in Phulbani. Dr Nisith Nisanth Malu who is the former Block Public Health Officer at Phiringia community Health Centre in Kandhmal, is currently serving Medical Officer (MO) at Sub-Divisional Hospital in Talcher, Anugul. The conviction comes after Nisith Nisanth Malu was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case related to demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 7,000 from a Multi-Purpose Health Worker. According to reports, Malu was found guilty of violating Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The Special Judge of Vigilance Court in Phulbani, pronounced the verdict. As a result of the conviction, Odisha Vigilance will now initiate proceedings to dismiss Malu from his current position as Medical Officer at the Sub-Divisional Hospital in Talcher in Angul district.
