Sonamarg: The famous Zojila Pass was reopened in a record-breaking time of 33 days by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) said reliable reports on Tuesday. According to reports, the reopening was carried out under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 and 14 Corps of the Indian Army and officials from Project Vijayak. Zojila, a crucial mountainous pass, connects Ladakh with the rest of the country and usually remains closed for several months during winter due to heavy snowfall and avalanche threats. mThe Director General Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan told ANI, “We are standing at an altitude of 12000 feet, and this road has been opened for vehicles. This is a milestone for BRO that we have been able to open this road in a record 33 days… This a a dangerous task which needs patience and a lot of expertise.” He further said, “We use two projects for this task, Project Himank from Srinagar and Project Vijayak from Kargil… There’s a constant threat of an avalanche during snow clearance operations… The pass was closed from 25 February to 1 April, making it 33 days. We were able to achieve this feat because we got a clear spell to work… Work on the Amarnath route will begin after the second predicted spell of snow.”
