PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Pamban New Railway Bridge on Ram Navami, security heightened

Rameswaram: Preparation underway and security heightened ahead of inauguration of Pamban New Railway Bridge in Rameswaram of Tamil Nadu by PM Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the New Railway Bridge on April 6 or Ram Navami. On the occasion of Ram Navami on April 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pray at the Ramanathswamy temple at Rameshwaram and also inaugurate the new Pamban Bridge. This is India’s first vertical lift sea bridge. According to reports, Tamil Nadu’s iconic Pamban Railway Bridge is undoubtedly a testament to unparalleled engineering. It is a unique example of Indian craftsmanship. Erected over the Bay of Bengal, the bridge is a vertical lift bridge. Pamban Railway Bridge connects the town of Rameswaram on the Pamban Island with Mandapam in mainland India. The new bridge will help the railways to operate trains at higher speed, carry more weight and increase the volume of traffic between Pamban and Rameswaram. While the current bridge has the ‘Scherzer’ rolling lift technology in which the bridge opens up horizontally to let ships pass through, in the new one, a 63 metre section will lift vertically upwards remaining parallel to the deck. It will be done using sensors at each end.
