Thousands of devotees await darshan of Lord Lingaraj on Rukuna Rath Yatra today

Bhubaneswar: The auspicious Rukuna Rath Yatra of Lord Lingaraj is celebrated today on Ashokastami in Chaitra month and a devotional aura can be seen everywhere. The Rukuna Rath yatra is helmed to begin at 3.00 pm. The Lords will ascend the Rath to begin their yatra (journey). Early in the night, the Rath was worshipped at Maha Khala. Holy water was taken from the Marichi kunda near Kedara Gouri and Mukteswar temple premises. The Khetrabasi Brahmin Niyog servitors worshipped the Rath with the holy water. Neta puja was done after that and the Neta was placed atop the Rath. The uniqueness of this festival is that it doesn’t take any turn during its journey. Therefore it is called ‘Analeuta.’ The direction of altars of the gods gets changed and the chariot is pulled from backside. This festival is believed to be ‘Papa Binashakari Yatra’ which means the festival that destroys all evil and sins. A traffic advisory has been issued by the Commissionerate police for the Rath Yatra. It is 6-day long festival of Lord Lingaraj. Rukuna Rathyatra will be celebrated in Bhubaneswar on April 5 and 6, and the Bahuda will be observed on April 9 and 10. During celebration of the Ashokastami Car festival restrictions will be imposed.
