New Delhi, 6/4: Mariam Alexander Baby, popularly known as M A Baby, was on Sunday elected as the General Secretary of the CPI(M) at the party’s 24th Congress in Madurai, succeeding Sitaram Yechury who passed away due to ill-health in September 2024.
71-year-old Baby is the second leader from Kerala to become the head of the CPI(M) after veteran E M S Namboodiripad. After Yechury’s sudden death in 2024, former general secretary Prakash Karat was named as the coordinator of the CPI(M) .
