Assam, 9/5 (Ao Bureau):Himanta Biswa Sarma’s name has been announced as the new Chief Minister of Assam. After the rounds of meetings in the BJP since Saturday, Sarma’s name was stamped today. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who was sent as the observer of Assam, after giving this information after the meeting of the Legislature Party, said that Sarma will take oath of Chief Minister tomorrow i.e. on Monday.
The BJP has won 60 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, while its coalition partner Assam Gana Parishad has won nine and the United Peoples Party Liberals have won six seats. The BJP did not announce its chief ministerial candidate before the election. In such a situation, the BJP high command called Sarbananda Sonowal and Hemant Biswa Sarma to Delhi for a decision on the new Chief Minister. The two leaders had several meetings yesterday in Delhi with BJP President JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
