Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad’s nephew joins BJP

New Delhi, 27/2: Mubashir Azad, the nephew of senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday. During this, he said that he is impressed by the development work done at the ground level by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mubashir Azad, the son of Ghulam Nabi Azad’s youngest brother Liaquat Ali, also said that the Congress leadership “insulted” his uncle, which made him sad and broke ties with the Congress.

However, Mubashir also said that he did not discuss his plans to join the BJP with his uncle. Mubashir Azad and his supporters were welcomed into the party by senior leaders including BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president Ravinder Raina and former MLA Dalip Singh Parihar.

In 2009, Azad’s brother Ghulam Ali also joined the BJP.

Raina described these people’s joining the BJP as a “decisive turning point” that would pave the way for young workers from Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts of the Chenab Valley region to join the party. “The BJP is moving ahead rapidly by bringing along political leaders of opposition parties, social workers from all communities like Hindus, Muslims, Gujjars, Bakarwals and Paharis,” he said. In April 2009, Azad’s brother Ghulam Ali also joined the BJP.
