Sukinda, : Tata Steel Mining Limited (TSML) has facilitated Regional Environment-cum-Mineral Awareness Programme (EMAP), 2022-23 for high school students in its Sukinda Chromite Mine. It was conducted by Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists (SGAT) with an aim to develop awareness among students and teachers in mining belts of Odisha on mining and protection of environment.
Twenty schools from different parts of Jajpur district participated in this programme. Each school was represented by 2 participants from class 9 along with one teacher accompanying them. The programme included visit to mines and participation in different contests like essay writing, identification of ores and quiz competition. Daitari High School was adjudged 1st position in overall category followed by St. Mary’s School, Jajpur.
Expressing happiness over the programme Pankaj Satija, Managing Director, TSML said, “SGAT is doing a wonderful work on making youth aware about mineral conservation and environment protection. Here in the mine we have been associated with this initiative for long so that the future citizens of the country can carry forward and implement the learnings from the programme.”
Ishwar Pradhan and Ranjit Kumar Das, Assistant Mining officers, Deputy Director of Mines (DDM) office graced the event along with JibanMahapatra, Joint Secretary, SGAT and Sujit Kumar Mohanty, Vice- President, SGAT. Sushant Kumar Mishra, Senior General Manager, TSML and senior executives of TSML were present during the programme.
The programme has been continuing for more than thirty years under the patronages of mining organizations of repute in Odisha in collaboration with the Directorate of Mines, Government of Odisha.
