Two giant fish weighing over 1.99 quintal sold for Rs 15 lakh in Odisha’s Jaleswar

Jaleswar: In a rare incident, a group of lucky fishermen here sold two giant fish for Rs 15 lakh in Digha. The fishermen caught a total of nine giant Telia Sila fish while fishing at Bay of Bengal mouth near Digha in West BengalThe two fishes weighing around 1 quintal 99 kilogram were sold for Rs 15 lakh, which is Rs 7,500 per kilogram. The two fish were caught in the Baba Saheb traller owned by Sekh Rohimul belonging to Nandigram area of West Bengal.A total of nine rare Telia fish had reached the market to be sold at auction at Baba Saheb Fish Market in Digha. Out of the nine fish, two were bought by a Kolkata company at a price of Rs 15 lakh ,15 thousand and two hundred rupees. The fish were bought at high price as they bear immense medicinal value.Many tourists and other local people gathered to see the rare fish, which is rarely caught during fishing.According to fishermen, this kind of fish usually prefers to move in deep sea. It is rarely caught in sea mouth. The value of the fish were determined as per their gender, weight.This fish maw can be used to manufacture medicines that save lives. The fish maw is also one of the most expensive body part of the fish. It is consumed as an healthy food for anti-aging as it contains high collagen content. It is also sold abroad for its medicinal purpose.
