Omar Abdullah to take oath as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): The first Chief Minister of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah is all set to take oath today that is on Wednesday.Omar Abdullah will be Jammu and Kashmir’s next Chief Minister after he won Budgam seat in Jammu and Kashmir by defeating Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party’s (JKPDP) Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi with a margin of 18,485 votes.The announcement was made by National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on October 8, 2024 after NC-Congress alliance’ strong performance.Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Jammu and Kashmir CM-designate Omar Abdullah told ANI, “I have some strange distinctions. I was the last chief minister to serve a full six-year term. Now I’ll be the first chief minister of the Union territory of J&K.”He further added, “The last distinction, as in the one of serving six years, I’m quite happy about…I hope that the status of a union territory is a temporary one. We look forward to working in cooperation with government of India to resolve the people’s problems and the best way to do that would be to start by restoring statehood to J&K.”
