Dhenkanal (Odisha), Dec 23, 2024: GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited GKEL), a subsidiary of GMR Power and Urban Infra Ltd (GPUIL), has been awarded with the coveted Odisha State Energy Conservation Award (OSECA)-2024 for its contribution towards energy efficiency and energy conservation.
GKEL received the Top Performer Award for its meritorious performance under the category of CPP/IPP in the State level function, organized by the Department of Energy, Office of Engineer-in-Chief (Electricity)-cum-PCEI (Principal Chief Electrical Inspector) with support of BEE (SDA), on the eve of National Energy Conservation Day at Lok Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar.
On behalf of the company, Manoj Mishra, Plant Head, received the award from Odisha Deputy Chief Minister, Energy, Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment K V Singh Deo.
GKEL has initiated efforts in improving energy performance through sustenance plan and innovations to achieve the benchmark in power sector by introducing eleven energy saving projects with 53 lakh kmh electrical energy, 106.61 tons giga calorie of thermal energy in terms of coal and oil saving. It has also reduced specific raw water consumption from 2.14 M3/MWh to 2.10 M3/MWh, through innovative approach and best practices.

GKEL is a 1050 MW (3X350 MW) coal based power plant located in Kamalanga Village, Dhenkanal district is strategically located close to the coal belt. It has long term Power Purchase Agreements with GRIDCO (Odisha), Uttar and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigams, (UHBVNL & DHBVNL), Bihar State Electricity Board and a medium term PPA with TNEB.
