Chhattisgarh: Chilkapalli village in Bijapur gets electricity for the first time after Independence

Bijapur: In a major achievement post independence, a village in Chhattisgarh has received electricity for the first time ever, said reports on Monday. The Chilkapalli village in Bijapur is a former Naxal-prone area.According to reports, the village got electricity for the first time after Independence, under Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s ‘Niyad Nellanar’ scheme. Bijapur Collector Sambit Mishra told ANI, “Chilkapalli village received electricity on January 23. This is the sixth village under the ‘Niyad Nellanar’ scheme where we have provided electricity facilities.”An employee of the electricity department in Bijapur, Faldoor, told ANI, “Commute was difficult (without electricity). The government officials talked to the villagers and then set up electricity here. The villagers say that now that the government has provided electricity, they can protect themselves from snakes and scorpions. It took 3-4 months for electricity to reach here.”A resident of Chilkapalli village, Hemlata, told, “Now that we have electricity, we can get a TV and watch the news. We don’t feel scared to go out at night anymore.”Another resident of Chilkapalli village, Karishma, said, “Life was difficult here (without electricity). It is easier to cook at night now and teach the children.”
