New Delhi: The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Delhi is likely to be held after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his US visit on February 13, 2025. BJP got a overwhelming victory in Delhi and returned to power after a 27-year-long gap. The party won 48 seats in the 70-member Assembly. Meanwhile, the previous ruling party AAP managed to win 22 seats. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party which has been ruling the city for a decade faced defeats in case of its key leaders including party chief and Manish Sisodia. Like Odisha, BJP did not announce a Chief Ministerial face for the election. BJP held high-level meetings to decide the head of government. On Saturday evening, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and other leaders at the party headquarters. However, it is not known whether they discussed the chief ministerial candidates and government formation. The expected Chief Minister candidates are Parvesh Verma, (who defeated Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat), Vijender Gupta, (a senior BJP leader), Satish Upadhyay, Ashish Sood, and Jitendra Mahajan. PM Modi is scheduled to visit the United States on February 12-13 for his first meeting with US President Donald Trump in his second term. The party is expected to stake claim to power next week after the PM’s return from the foreign and the oath taking is likely to be held afterwards, sources said.
