As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, NTPC Talcher Kaniha has kickstarted a 15-day training program on millet processing and marketing, aimed at empowering rural women and SHG members by enhancing their economic prospects. The program, which runs from March 19 to April 5, 2025, will train around 30 women from 12 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the surrounding villages of NTPC Kaniha. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri Ashok Kumar Sehgal, Executive Director, NTPC Talcher Kaniha, along with Head of HR, Shri Navneet Kumar, Smt. Sujita Rath, AGM (HR) and Shri Jitendra Kumar, Sr Manager (HR). The event also witnessed the participation of representatives from the partner organization, Social Development Foundation, Talcher. Addressing the gathering, Shri Ashok Kumar Sehgal emphasized the varied benefits of millet cultivation and processing, which offer sustainable entrepreneurial opportunities while also improving dietary habits through the inclusion of nutrient-rich millets. He reiterated NTPC’s commitment towards fostering self-reliance and enhancing livelihoods through such skill-based initiatives. The training program focuses on processing and preserving various types of millets, known for their nutritional value and climate resilience. Participants will gain hands-on experience in value-added millet products, equipping them with the necessary skills to establish small-scale enterprises. The women trainees expressed their appreciation for NTPC Talcher Kaniha’s efforts in enabling them to explore new income-generating opportunities. By equipping them with essential skills, the program not only promotes economic self-sufficiency but also contributes to sustainable agriculture and healthier lifestyles.
