New Zealand: Magnitude of 6.8 earthquake strikes coast of Riverton

New Zealand: A massive earthquake struck off the coast of Riverton in New Zealand on Tuesday. The magnitude was recorded 6.8 on the Richter scale. However, no casualties have been reported. According to the USGS, initially the earthquake recorded at 7 magnitude which struck at the depth of 10 kilometres off the south west tip of the South Island. The authorities have not issued any tsunami warnings for the region. Officials are continuing to monitor the situation for any aftershocks. Previously, a 6.3 magnitude struck Christchurch in 2011 which had killed 185 people.
