Angul, April 1, 2025 – NTPC Talcher Thermal came alive with fervor and pride as it marked
the grand celebration of the 90th Utkal Divas, a day dedicated to honoring the rich cultural
heritage and glorious history of Odisha. The event witnessed the presence of esteemed
dignitaries, cultural performances, and enthusiastic participation from the township
community.
Dr. J.P. Roy, GM (Project) attended the event as the Chief Guest and emphasized the
significance of this occasion in preserving and respecting the art and culture of Odisha. Prof.
Santanu Kumar Sar, retired principal of the Autonomous Government College, Angul, graced
the event as the Chief Speaker. He expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and
commended the impeccable arrangements. Prof. Sar enlightened the audience with
historical insights, highlighting the sacrifices made by Odisha’s leaders in the quest for an
independent state.
The State Anthem was rendered by the Ladies Club members along with all employees,
filling the atmosphere with deep patriotic sentiments. The cultural troupe from Nrityalaya,
Angul, led by Swapna Rani Sinha, mesmerized the audience with captivating performances
showcasing Odisha’s diverse dance forms. The Cultural Evening featured performances of
Odissi, tribal dance forms like Shantali and Dhemsa, and a powerful portrayal of “Sons of
Utkala,” depicting the valiant struggle for Odisha’s independence.
Adding to the festivities, an array of traditional competitions such as Pitha making, Jhoti
(rangoli), Hulalhuli, and Sankh blowing were organized, where both male and female
participants from the township showcased their enthusiasm and talent.
The 90th Utkal Divas celebration at Talcher Thermal was a resounding success, leaving an
indelible mark on all attendees. It was a day of pride, unity, and a renewed commitment to
preserving and promoting the cultural ethos of Odisha.
