A man died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train in Odisha’s Khurdha, leaving behind a video accusing his wife of prolonged mental harassment, said police on Sunday. The man, identified as Ramchandra Barjena of Kumbharbasta village in Odisha’s Khordha district, recorded a short video before taking the extreme step. He blamed his wife, who has now been arrested. “I am Ramchandra Barjena. I live in Kumbharbasta. I am committing suicide today because of my wife,” he was heard saying in the video, which surfaced on social media. He reportedly jumped in front of a moving train near the Nijigarh-Tapang railway track after recording the video and died on the spot, said officials aware of the incident. Acting on a complaint of a passerby, police and railway authorities arrived at the scene, recovered Ramchandra’s body, and promptly launched an investigation. He was later identified by his family. Ramchandra, who had a daughter with his wife Rupali, had reportedly been enduring mental harassment and domestic disputes, which allegedly drove him to take the extreme step. The victim’s parents lodged a police complaint, accusing Rupali and her family of abetment to suicide. Subsequently, the police registered a case under Sections 108, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and recorded the victim’s mother’s statement. In her complaint, Ramchandra’s mother alleged that her daughter-in-law often left home for long periods and mistreated him for not visiting her parental house regularly, while also claiming their family covered the wedding expenses and lent ₹20 lakh to the bride’s family. “They had only been married for two years, and since then, we have endured a lot. My son’s death is the result of the cruelty he faced. We want justice,” she stated. An investigation into the matter is underway.
