Rajgangpur, April 7, 2025: Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd. (DCBL), a leading player in India’s cement sector, in collaboration with Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), has successfully commenced the transportation of fly ash using BTAP (Bogie Tank for Alumina Powder) rakes a first-of-its-kind initiative at its integrated cement plant in Rajgangpur, Odisha. Owing to their leak-proof design and specialised air fluidizing system, BTAP wagons help significantly reduce dust emissions during the transportation of fly ash. Fly ash was transported via this first BTAP rake from Belpahar to Rajgangpur, ensuring the material was moved safely, efficiently, and in an environmentally responsible manner.
The flag-off ceremony took place recently at the BTAP unloading section near BC1 Slag Hopper, in the presence of Mr. Manas Rout, MD and Director operations, OPGC, and senior representatives from the DCBL Rajgangpur operations team. This initiative marks another benchmark in Dalmia Cement’s journey towards sustainable logistics. Earlier, the company had pioneered the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) for transporting slag from SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to its unit, showcasing its commitment to cleaner and greener supply chains. The latest deployment of BTAP rakes for dry fly ash transportation further builds on this momentum, reinforcing DCBL’s leadership in environment-friendly industrial practices.
Commenting on the initiative, Shri Chetan Shrivastav, Executive Director of DCBL and Unit Head of Rajgangpur said, “At Dalmia Cement, we continue to prioritize sustainable and efficient practices across our operations. The use of BTAP rakes for fly ash transportation not only strengthens our circular economy approach but also helps minimize environmental impact through cleaner logistics. We are proud to collaborate with OPGC on this initiative and look forward to scaling this model further.”
This milestone marks a significant step towards sustainable ash utilisation, helping reduce fugitive dust emissions typically associated with fly ash transportation. By leveraging BTAP technology under the Liberalized Special Freight Train Operator (LSFTO) scheme, Dalmia Cement and OPGC are advancing cleaner logistics while promoting circular economy practices.
Dalmia Cement’s Rajgangpur plant has consistently pioneered innovative and eco-conscious practices across operations, with a strong focus on industrial collaboration to support sustainable development goals in the region.
