Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik is likely to take some major actions against party MP Sasmit Patra, who drew a strong internal dissent from some party leaders, for voting in support of the Waqf Bill. If sources are to be believed, Patnaik will definitely take some action against Patra as several party’s heavy weight leaders have been seeking action against the Parliamentarian. It is expected that the BJD supremo might either issue a show cause notice against the Rajya Sabha MP or ask him to step down as party’s leader at the Upper House of the Parliament. It is to be noted here that Sasmit Patra caused a strong disagreement among the party leaders ever since he took a u-turn in party’s stand against the Waqf Bill and announced that no whip was issued for the party MPs during the voting for Waqf Bill at Rajya Sabha. He had clarified that the BJD MPs can exercise their conscience in the best interest of justice, harmony and the rights of all communities. Later in an interview to the media, Sasmit Patra confessed to have casted his votes for the Waqf Bill. This angered some party leaders and the members of the minority community, who met Naveen and urged him to end the Waqf Bill dispute by taking some action against Sasmit Patra. Currently, Sasmit Patra is now on an official tour to Tashkent as he is part of the parliamentary delegation to 150th assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at Tashkent.
