Hirakud Dam Closes 6 Sluice Gates, Keeps 2 Open As Water Level Declines

The Hirakud Dam authorities have closed six sluice gates while keeping a total of two sluice gates open — one on the left and one on the right.According to the latest 24-hourly reservoir update, the water level in Hirakud stood at 611.33 feet and is currently on a declining trend. The live storage in the reservoir is 1.482 million acre feet, which is 38 per cent of its capacity. The average inflow into the reservoir was recorded at 1,14,157 cusecs, while the average outflow stood at 1,69,325 cusecs.Significant discharge is being made through the spillway and power channel. Power generation from Burla and Chiplima Power Houses together stood at 209.042 MW during the day.The current reservoir level is 2.71 feet lower than the level recorded on the same day last year.
