Jaleswar: The water level of Jalaka River has swelled to the danger mark resulting in continuous rainfall and sparking apprehension of flood in some areas of Baleshwar district on Tuesday.The water level is reportedly in a state of continuous rise due to the heavy rainfall in the river’s catchment areas in neighbouring Mayurbhanj district.At the Mathani gauge station in the Basta block, the warning level is 6.00 metres while the danger level stands at 6.50 metres.Till 6 AM on Tuesday, the river Jalaka had crossed the 6.50 metres mark, standing to the danger mark at the above gauge station, giving rise to apprehensions of inundation in low-laying riparian regions.The matter is under closely under watch by local authorities and necessary action is expected, in case the water level increases any further.People in riverine zones have been requested to keep themselves alert.
