Tension gripped Kantabanji after a police team came under deadly attack by miscreants on Sunday night while attempting to arrest an accused in a recent assault case.According to reports, the police had registered Case No. 159/2026 following a clash near Sunny Garage two days earlier. Acting on information, a team reached near a petrol pump to apprehend the accused. Suddenly, the prime suspect and 6–7 associates attacked the police with sharp weapons.In the assault, OPAF jawan Man Rasapeda sustained serious injuries. He was first treated at Kantabanji and later shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College, Balangir. The attackers also vandalised the police vehicle during the incident.Police managed to nab Gobinda Suna and Roshan Cook, while other accused fled. A separate case No. 160/2026 has been registered regarding the attack on police. Special teams have been formed to track the absconding accused, with call records and CCTV footage under scrutiny.
