Bhubaneswar: Suspended IIC of Sarankul police station Sujit Das appeared before the Crime Branch on Tuesday in connection with a sexual harassment case, following directions of the Orissa High Court.Das appeared before the Crime Branch CAW (Crime Against Women) wing which is investigating the case on the orders of the DGP. The High Court has stayed his arrest and directed him to cooperate in the ongoing investigation.The case was registered against Das after a married woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted by him. As per the complaint, the woman had approached Sarankul police seeking protection and justice after facing harassment and assault by some villagers. She alleged in a written complaint to the SP that the IIC took advantage of her vulnerable situation by assuring her of assistance and legal support.Following the allegations, Das was placed under suspension on charges of misconduct and dereliction of duty. On June 18, he was transferred to Nayagarh district police headquarters. During the suspension period, he was asked to remain under the disciplinary control of the IG (Central Range), Cuttack.The Crime Branch is continuing its probe into the matter.
