Snakebite Claims Lives Of Woman And 7-Year-Old Son In Gajapati Village

Bhubaneswar: In a heartbreaking tragedy, a woman and her seven-year-old son died after being bitten by poisonous snake Banded Krait while they were asleep.The incident took place at Kadamatāl village under Rayagada block in Gajapati district.According to reports, Ajay Kumar Badaraita was sleeping last night with his wife Lalita (30), son Amit (7) and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. During the time, two Banded Kraits entered the house and bit Lalita and Amit on their hands. Both started writhing in pain and screaming, which woke Ajay. When he got up, he was taken aback to see the two snakes inside the house.Family members immediately took the mother-son duo to the Rayagada Community Health Centre (CHC). As their condition turned critical, they were referred to the Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital in Parlakhemundi. However, both Lalita and Amit died while undergoing treatment. Fortunately, Ajay and his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter escaped unharmed.The tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the village.
