Puri: A 75-year-old devotee from Jajpur district died after collapsing during darshan at the Jagannath Temple in Puri on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Nilakantha Dash of Alarpur village under Binjharpur police station in Jajpur district.According to police, Dash suddenly fell ill and collapsed while having darshan of Lord Jagannath inside the temple premises.Temple police personnel deployed at the scene immediately shifted him to the First Aid Center on the temple premises. After primary treatment, he was rushed to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors examined him and declared him dead.Preliminary investigation revealed that Dash had pre-existing health problems related to heart and lungs. “This is the primary reason for his death. However, the cause of death will be clear after the postmortem report,” police said. Necessary legal proceedings are underway in this regard.Dash’s wife, who had accompanied him to the temple for darshan, told police that her husband had a history of lungs and heart problems.
