Puri: Police recovered body of an elderly woman from beneath a cement-plastered kitchen slab in Puri’s Kumbharapada area Tuesday, with her son allegedly suspected of killing her and fleeing the spot.The accused is identified as Madan Dalai, 45, at Patitapaban Sahi under Kumbharapada police limits. The house owner reportedly informed police about the incident.The case came to light after a foul smell was noticed coming from beneath the kitchen slab. A scientific team reached the spot and broke open the plaster, following which the woman’s body was recovered.Madan, who reportedly sells water bottles near the Shree Jagannath Temple, is currently absconding and his mobile phone has been switched off.Puri SP Prateek Singh visited the spot and said police have launched an investigation into the death. CCTV footage from the house is being examined, with footage reportedly showing the movements of the mother and son until August 19.The mother and son had reportedly rented the house about two months ago for Rs 3,000 a month. Neighbours said the two generally kept to themselves.
