Paralakhemundi, Aug 29: A major fire broke out at the Gajapati Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Paralakhemundi on Saturday morning, causing extensive damage to the office and destroying several important government files and other belongings.According to reports, the fire broke out at around 9:30 AM at the RTO office. After receiving information, the Paralakhemundi Fire Services team rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations.After nearly one-and-a-half hours of efforts, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control. A large portion of the office was damaged in the incident, while several important government documents, files and office equipment were reportedly gutted.Regional Transport Officer Tapan Kumar Betty said that a short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. However, the exact cause will be confirmed after a detailed investigation.Fortunately, the fire broke out before employees arrived at the office, and no casualties were reported. The extent of the financial and documentary loss will be assessed after a detailed inspection, officials said.
