Woman ‘beaten to death’ by husband allegedly over Subhadra Yojana money

Dhenkanal: A woman was allegedly beaten to death and buried inside a septic tank by her husband in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district after she refused to hand over money received under the Subhadra Yojana for buying alcohol, sources said.The incident took place late Friday night at Juang Sahi in Indipur under the Sadar police limits. The accused, identified as Girish Pradhan, allegedly assaulted his wife with a stick before burying her body in a septic tank in the backyard of their home.Police recovered the woman’s body Saturday and arrested Pradhan. A scientific team was also present during the investigation, and police recreated the crime scene with the accused.Dhenkanal SP Indurekha said police received information about the incident at around 9 am and reached the spot.“There was a fight between the couple. The husband killed the wife and buried her in the backyard. We came and recovered the body. The case was then taken to the Executive Magistrate and the body was shifted to the government hospital for autopsy,” she said.According to the woman’s family, the couple had gone to collect their Subhadra money earlier Friday. Later, the husband allegedly demanded the money to buy alcohol, but she refused.The family suspects that the refusal led to the fatal assault later that night.
