Two major developments are in focus today, September 2, with the Supreme Court set to hear a PIL challenging the OdishaDGP selection process and the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is expected to finalise the CEO of the Ayodhya Ram Temple.The Supreme Court will hear a PIL questioning the process followed by the Odisha government for selecting the next Director General of Police (DGP). The court is likely to hear arguments from both the state government and the petitioner.The petition has raised questions over the list of IPS officers sent by the Odisha government to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It alleges that the selection process did not fully follow the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court in its landmark Prakash Singh judgment.The initial list sent to the UPSC contained the names of three DG-rank officers. Objections were later raised over the inclusion of additional officers in the list.In Ayodhya, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will take up the selection of the Ram Temple CEO. Three candidates have been recommended for the post.The search committee comprised retired judge Pramod Kohli, Lieutenant General Vishnukant Chaturvedi and industrialist Suresh Haware. It reviewed 5,585 applications and shortlisted 16 candidates for interviews.Following the interviews, three names were recommended to Trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das. The Trust meeting today is expected to finalise the appointment.
