Swadhinata Sangrami Memorial Trust, Kaniha, observed the 89th Prajamandal Day on 6 September 2026. The day commemorates the historic movement of 1936, when the people of Talcher courageously rose against British colonial rule and feudal oppression, striving for justice, equality and freedom. The programme brought together the residents of Kaniha to commemorate the formation of the Prajamandal and honour the legacy of those who made sacrifices for the nation.
The programme was graced by distinguished guests, including Shri Braja Kishore Pradhan, MLA, Talcher; Shri Ashok Mohanty, MLA, Pallahara; Shri Pratap Chandra Pradhan, MLA, Angul; Shri Ashish Ranjan Sahu, Sub-Collector, Talcher Division; Shri Ajay Singh Yadav, Chief General Manager & Head of Project, NTPC Talcher Kaniha; and Shri Dinesh Mali, GM, MCL Kaniha. Their presence highlighted the collective commitment of the government and industry towards social welfare and community development.
During the ceremony, around 90 families of martyrs and freedom fighters were felicitated in recognition of their contribution and sacrifice. Various competitions were also organised for students by the Prajamandal, and the winners were felicitated with prizes. The initiative served as an important step towards fostering patriotism and creating awareness among the younger generation about the region’s rich history and the sacrifices made during the freedom movement.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ajay Singh Yadav said that NTPC Talcher Kaniha’s participation in Prajamandal Day is a humble effort to keep alive the values upheld by the freedom fighters through their struggle—courage, unity and patriotism. He also highlighted that NTPC Talcher Kaniha has been supporting the celebration for the past three decades.
He further stated that NTPC’s role extends beyond power generation, with the organisation making sustained contributions towards education, skill development, healthcare and social welfare. Through such initiatives, NTPC Talcher Kaniha continues to contribute to the development of the surrounding communities while upholding the values of social responsibility and nation-building.
