New Delhi [India], September 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a bilateral meeting with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is in New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit.President Tokayev participated in the BRICS sessions held at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. His visit underscores the close and longstanding relations between India and Kazakhstan, which date back to February 1992, when India became one of the first countries to recognise Kazakhstan’s independence.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Kazakhstan twice—in July 2015 and June 2017. His 2017 visit was for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, when India was admitted as a full member of the organisation.India and Kazakhstan have also strengthened their cooperation in the field of technology. As part of this partnership, India gifted theParam Bilim Supercomputerto Kazakhstan. The system was subsequently upgraded and operationalised on June 28, 2025, in Akkol, Kazakhstan.Earlier on Sunday, Gaziza Uzak, Head of the news agency NazarMedia and a member of the Union of Journalists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, praised Prime Minister Modi and India for hosting and chairing the BRICS Summit.”We are from Kazakhstan. We are a strategic partner of India. So we support Modi’s programme because I think he speaks more good and best information for us to save our planet and to make our lives and our relationships better,” Uzak said.She added that the summit provided opportunities for further cooperation ahead of the next BRICS Summit in China and expressed hope that such engagements would contribute to positive changes in global relations and people’s lives.Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi earlier marked the conclusion of the two-day 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam.In his concluding remarks, PM Modi called on BRICS member countries to translate the outcomes of the summit into concrete, time-bound action.”We are now moving towards the conclusion. As the 18th BRICS Summit draws to a close, I express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your active participation and valuable contributions,” PM Modi said.He added that the ideas and suggestions shared by participating countries had added both breadth and depth to BRICS cooperation.”Your presence stands as a testament to the growing relevance, openness, and inclusiveness of BRICS,” the Prime Minister said.The bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Tokayev is expected to further reinforce the strategic partnership between India and Kazakhstan, with cooperation spanning diplomacy, technology, trade and multilateral engagement.
