Baripada, September 18, 2026: A 10-day advanced skill training camp has commenced at the historic Belgadia Palace with the objective of further enriching and refining the heritage and artistic traditions of Mayurbhanj Chhau dance. Organised by Contact Base and Bangla Night Dot Com, the camp is being attended by 100 Chhau artists from across the district.
Under the guidance of renowned Chhau guru Lokanath Das, with the support of Dibakar Nayak and Piyush Ghadei, the trainees will receive detailed training in advanced techniques, postures, gestures (mudras) and expressions of Chhau dance.
Chief organiser and Founder-Director of Bangla Night Dot Com, Amitabh Bhattacharya, stated that Mayurbhanj Chhau is not merely a dance form but an invaluable cultural heritage. He said the objective of the camp is to connect the present generation with this tradition and develop highly skilled artists through advanced training.
Sudhir Kumar Nayak, Secretary of Uttarsahi Chhau Nrutya Pratisthan, informed that renowned international mime and movement artist Debakumar Pal will participate as a guest trainer and provide training to the artists in body language, expressions and stage presentation skills.
