Baripada, September 18, 2026:.Patients and their attendants visiting PRM Medical College and Hospital and Baripada Medical are facing numerous problems, prompting concern among members of the Social Welfare Forum.
To seek solutions to these public grievances, a delegation led by Biswajit Nayak, Secretary of the organisation’s Core Committee, submitted a memorandum to the District Collector through Additional District Magistrate Dukhabandhu Nayak.
According to the organisation, one of the major problems is the shortage of medical staff. Against the sanctioned strength of 141 posts for the Headquarter Medical Officer cadre at Baripada, only 51 are currently working, leaving approximately 64% of the posts vacant. Similarly, out of 205 sanctioned staff nurse posts, only 79 are filled, leaving around 61% vacant. The organisation stated that these shortages are causing considerable difficulties for patients.
The delegation also alleged that the Anatomy Department at PRM Medical College is not functioning properly, affecting students’ academic training. It further pointed out that the absence of CT scan and MRI facilities forces patients to travel nearly 10 kilometres elsewhere, creating serious inconvenience for patients and their attendants.
The organisation appealed for immediate steps to resolve these issues and ensure essential medical services for patients without delay.
Those present during the submission of the memorandum included organisation members Pradip Mistry, Rajib Jena, Santosh Kumar Pattanayak, Baladev Sathapathy, Anandanda Sakuda, Jogeshwar Palbabu, Bikrant Lenka, Manoj Kumar Behera and Ranjan Kumar Das.
