The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Tariq Hameed Karra on Saturday led a protest outside the BJP headquarters in Jammu, condemning a poster that allegedly linked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav with militancy. The demonstration coincided with the Congress’ ongoing “Chaupal Pe Charcha” outreach programme, which addresses issues such as restoration of statehood, unemployment, recruitment concerns, and rising prices.Karra accused the BJP of attempting to divert public attention from pressing issues by resorting to “politics of hatred.” He questioned the party’s claims of nationalism, citing historical controversies including the 1999 IC‑814 hijacking and the release of Jaish‑e‑Mohammad chief Masood Azhar.“Rahul Gandhi comes from a family that saw two prime ministers sacrifice their lives for the unity of India,” Karra said, while challenging the BJP to identify comparable sacrifices from its political tradition. The protest, joined by senior leaders including Raman Bhalla, saw slogans raised against the BJP and the central government. Karra also alleged links between BJP figures and individuals arrested for militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, vowing that Congress would continue its agitation against divisive politics.
