New Delhi, September 23: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced the appointment of party in-charges and co-in-charges for several states and Union Territories, with BJP National President Nitin Nabin approving the organisational changes.Senior BJP leader Smriti Irani has been assigned organisational responsibilities for Haryana and Chhattisgarh, while Sunil Bansal has been given charge of West Bengal and Telangana. Vinod Tawde will continue to oversee Uttar Pradesh as part of his organisational responsibilities.The party has also appointed Ram Madhav as the in-charge for Uttarakhand, with Bansuri Swaraj named as the co-in-charge.The appointments come as the BJP looks to strengthen its organisational structure and coordinate party activities across various states.Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand BJP Core Group is scheduled to meet on September 25, with Nitin Nabin set to chair the meeting. Discussions are expected to include preparations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from Uttarakhand and the selection of the party’s candidate for the seat.One Rajya Sabha seat from Uttarakhand is scheduled to go to polls following the retirement of the sitting member. Senior state leaders are expected to deliberate on potential candidates and other organisational and political aspects related to the election before the party takes a final decision.The development comes a day after the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for biennial elections and a by-election to the Rajya Sabha in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The poll schedule also covers biennial elections to Legislative Councils in Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh from the Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies.According to the ECI notification, biennial elections will be held for 11 Rajya Sabha seats, including 10 from Uttar Pradesh and one from Uttarakhand, which will fall vacant in November due to the retirement of sitting members.A by-election will also be held for one Rajya Sabha seat from West Bengal that fell vacant following the resignation of TMC MP Rukmini Mallik.The notification for the Rajya Sabha elections will be issued on September 29. The last date for filing nominations is October 6, followed by scrutiny on October 7. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 9.Polling will be held on October 16 from 9 am to 4 pm, with counting of votes scheduled for the same day.
