Most of the projects currently coming to Mayurbhanj district are allegedly being concentrated in the Rairangpur subdivision, while the other three subdivisions of the district are reportedly being neglected. This has caused widespread resentment among intellectuals and concerned sections of society, raising serious questions over whose interests are being served by such an arrangement.
There is also growing dissatisfaction among intellectuals and poor daily-wage workers over the inadequate railway services in the eastern part of Mayurbhanj district.
While there has been a long-standing demand for a daily night train service from Bangiriposi to Puri, people have also been demanding for years that a DMU train run daily from Bangiriposi to Balasore.
Despite the public and media repeatedly bringing these demands to the attention of Hon’ble MP Naba Charan Majhi, questions are being raised over why the demands have allegedly been ignored.
Intellectuals have strongly criticised the situation, stating that neglecting such basic transportation needs amounts to a serious injustice to a predominantly tribal and economically disadvantaged district, particularly its poor daily-wage workers. They have also expressed dissatisfaction with the functioning of the MP and urged that the genuine demands of the people of eastern Mayurbhanj be addressed promptly.
