Rourkela, 5 October 2026: National Institute of Technology Rourkela hosted “Career Seminar Global South-Japan Tech Talent Internship 2026”, bringing together senior representatives from leading Japanese technology companies and organisations with NIT Rourkela’s academic leadership and students to explore international career and talent opportunities.
The programme was organised by the Career Development Centre (CDC), NIT Rourkela, in association with Global South-Japan Tech Talent Internship (GS-JTI), Deloitte Tohmatsu and Tech Japan. The visiting delegation included senior representatives from Deloitte Tohmatsu, Tech Japan, NanoFrontier, Ridgeworks, GustoDevelopment, Nichi-In Software Solutions, MiDriq NbS, KH Industry and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
The inaugural session was attended by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director, NIT Rourkela; Prof. Rohan Dhiman, Registrar; along with Deans, Head of Departments and faculty members.
Addressing the visiting delegation, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao highlighted NIT Rourkela’s multidisciplinary academic environment and its focus on preparing students for the changing needs of industry. He emphasised the importance of developing skills alongside academic knowledge and creating greater flexibility for students to pursue diverse academic and career pathways.

Prof. Surajit Das, Head, Career Development Centre, said, “This engagement provides an important platform for our students to understand career opportunities with Japanese companies and for industry representatives to experience the talent and capabilities of NIT Rourkela. We look forward to building stronger and sustained India–Japan academic and industry connections through such initiatives.”
The programme featured company introductions, an Institute presentation and interaction with the NIT Rourkela leadership. The visiting delegation also undertook a campus and laboratory visit covering the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry, providing an opportunity to understand the Institute’s academic and research ecosystem.
The afternoon session included presentations on the GS-JTI programme, career opportunities with Japanese companies and the Talendy platform, followed by interactive sessions with students. A round-table student interaction was also organised across seven classrooms, enabling direct engagement between the visiting companies and NIT Rourkela students.
