Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the newly revamped and modernised Kalinga Studio in the state capital, marking a major step towards strengthening Odisha’s film industry and creating new opportunities in tourism and entertainment. Odishacultural events The historic Kalinga Studio has been given a completely new look with state-of-the-art facilities, transforming it into a comprehensive film production and entertainment hub. One of the major attractions at the revamped studio is the Snow World, which is the Odisha’s first snow park. It offers visitors an experience of a snow-covered environment and cold temperatures. The facility has a separate entry ticket and is expected to emerge as a new entertainment and tourism destination in Bhubaneswar. The redeveloped studio also features modern indoor shooting floors, a snow house, chroma floors, a technology zone, sound recording facilities, dubbing and editing studios, and advanced post-production infrastructure. The facilities have been designed to meet the changing requirements of the film industry in the digital era. Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Majhi said Odia filmmakers would no longer need to travel to other states for various technical requirements related to film production. He said several world-class facilities have been made available at the revamped studio, while more advanced infrastructure would be added in the coming days. Recalling the history of Odia cinema, the Chief Minister said films such as Maa, Amadabata and Matira Manisha established a close relationship between Odia literature and cinema in the 1950s and 1960s. He said Kalinga Studio was established in 1980 to support film production in Odisha, but natural disasters and rapid technological changes eventually made its redevelopment necessary. Majhi expressed confidence in Odisha’s young talent, noting their growing presence in acting, direction, cinematography, animation, sound design and digital storytelling. He urged young filmmakers to draw on the state’s folk traditions, history and cultural heritage to create original stories. During the event, the Chief Minister also unveiled the new official portal of the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC). The revamped Kalinga Studio is expected to emerge as a major hub for film production, tourism and creative industries in Odisha.
