JMM Submits Five-Point Charter of Demands to Odisha Government

Baripada, October 7: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has launched a three-day district-wide programme of submitting memoranda under the leadership of district president Krushna Chandra Das. As part of the pre-scheduled programme, a five-point memorandum addressed to the Hon’ble Chief Minister was submitted at Baripada through Additional District Magistrate Dukhbandhu Naik, in the absence of the District Collector.

The JMM stated that prolonged heavy rainfall across various parts of Mayurbhanj district had created flood-like conditions, resulting in extensive damage to roads, bridges, embankments, school and college buildings, government offices, agricultural activities and farmland, houses and other properties, besides causing significant losses to life and property.

The party submitted the following five demands:

1. A proper assessment of all losses caused by the heavy rainfall and floods should be conducted, and a special financial assistance package should be announced for Morada Block to compensate the affected people.

2. Pending allowances and benefits should be provided at the earliest to all eligible beneficiaries in the block.

3. The MMDR Bill should be withdrawn.

4. The Minister of Mass Education should be relieved of his responsibilities.

5. The Chief Election Commissioner should resign from his post.

The JMM urged both the State and Central governments to fulfil these demands at the earliest. The party warned that if the demands are not addressed, it would not hesitate to launch an agitation.

A large number of youth and student activists participated in the programme. Those present included JMM district president Krushna Chandra Das, city president Taren Senapati, State Council member Sujit Behera, Baripada Block secretary Bablu Singh, Abhishek Dandapat, Budhia Murmu, Meghray Soren, Rameshwar Lohari, Prem Singh, Saumyarajan Agasti, Bishu Ray, Daman Hembrom, Pradeep Singh and Shankar Singh, among others.

The memorandum was also submitted through the Executive Officer of Baripada Municipality and the Baripada Block Development Officer (BDO) for onward submission to the Hon’ble Chief Minister by the JMM functionaries.
