Jharsuguda: Brajrajnagar Police have arrested two persons and seized 2.3 kg of Ganja and 10 grams of suspected Brown Sugar during an operation under the ongoing Operation ‘Netra’ campaign in Jharsuguda district, dealing a blow to the suspected illegal drug trade. The arrested persons have been identified as Mrunal Kanti Bhoi (42), a resident of LCH Colony, Mandalia, under Orient Police Station, and Panchananda Pandey, alias Maniram (63), a resident of Nuadihi under Brajrajnagar Police Station. According to police sources, a team led by Sub-Inspector Madan Mohan Nayak, in-charge of Gandhichhak Police Outpost, acted on reliable information and intercepted a scooter near Khaliakani Bridge. During the inspection, the police noticed a plastic sack placed between the rider and the pillion passenger. Following the prescribed procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the police searched the sack and recovered 2 kg 300 grams of ganja and 10 grams of suspected brown sugar. The police also seized the scooter bearing registration number OD 23Q 1230, two mobile phones and ₹820 in cash. Police further stated that four cases are already registered against Mrunal Kanti Bhoi at Orient Police Station. The arrests and seizure are part of the ongoing efforts under Operation ‘Netra’ to curb drug-related activities in the district.
