With a cyclonic storm projected to make landfall in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, the Odisha government has activated a comprehensive micro-plan to counter potential adverse weather conditions.Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced that all 30 districts in the state are expected to experience rainfall, with heavy downpours forecasted for several pockets.Addressing the media on the state’s preparedness, Minister Pujari emphasised that while the core landfall is expected in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha will experience significant collateral weather impacts. “Malkangiri district is projected to be the most affected,” Pujari stated, adding that senior administrative officials and cabinet ministers have already reached critical field locations to oversee relief and safety measures firsthand.Robust Monitoring and 24/7 Control Rooms. To ensure immediate response and seamless communication, round-the-clock control rooms have been established from the district level up to the state headquarters. “Ministers and senior officers are already on the ground so they can take immediate, localised action wherever necessary,” Pujari noted.Proactive Flood Management.Beyond immediate cyclone winds and rains, the government is keeping a close eye on potential secondary hazards, particularly river flooding. Acknowledging that rainfall in upstream Chhattisgarh directly impacts Odisha’s river systems, proactive steps are already underway. “Rainfall in Chhattisgarh means the Mahanadi River will swell. Therefore, proper water management is our top priority,” Pujari explained. He confirmed that discussions have already been held with Chhattisgarh authorities to ensure coordinated water regulation and prevent any unexpected flood situations downstream. The state administration has urged citizens to stay alert, follow official advisories, and cooperate with local authorities as disaster response teams remain on high alert across the region.
