JSW initiates Socio-Economic Survey at the ISP project site in association with XIM University, Bhubaneswar

- Population study tocover 4000+ people, 600 HH in Polang (Gadakujang GP), Nuagan village (single GP village) and Dhinkia, Govindpur, Mahala, Patana (Dhinkia GP) - 25 selected VLCs form project site villages to carry out the survey - Application submission date for technical, non-technical candidates from the project site extended up to Jan 7, 2022

Jagatsinghpur:  A socio-economic survey was launched today by JSW in collaboration with Xavier Institute for Management Studies, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), Bhubaneswar in the project site. The survey aims to capture immediate action points in sync with project activities inter alia employment potential, likelyoptions for localprocurement of materials, hiring of equipment &other services in the pre-project phase of the proposed Integrated Steel Plant (ISP).

“The intent is to strengthen the socio-economic fabric of the locality by generating economic opportunities for the individual households in the affected villages”, said Mr Ranjan Nayak, COO JSW Steel, Odisha operations. “We are taking the overall development in domains of employment, public health & primary education in the locality very seriously, and this survey is a sure step in this direction “, he added.

This exercise would help the company identify youthwith past experience of working in the mining, metals or steel sector, and assess their skill level.Contractors in various domains such as civil, electrical, material suppliers etc and households having commercial vehicles would also be tracked by this extensive survey. A systematic aspiration mapping for career & vocation among youth is part of this survey.

The survey would cover villages of Polang in Gadakujang GP, Nuagan and Dhinkia, Govindpur, Mahala, Patana and approximately 4000 people.The coverage for various government entitlements, schemes and subsidies would emerge for comprehensive understanding of inclusion. Moreover, small and medium business units in the village and neighboring markets owned by villagers, would be mapped. For each revenue village a database would be developed for common property resources, public infrastructure & institutions available.

The three-month long study would involve preparatory activities and physical survey in the first two months, followed by the data analysis and internal sharing of findings in the last month.This exercise is closely interlinked to VLC engagement process initiated by the company earlier. The 25 selected candidates with desired skills & experience in the first phase, would be initially deployed forthissurvey.

Of about 175 applications received for the position of Village Level Coordinators, in the first phase, interview was conducted for 88 candidates from Nuagaon, Gobindapur, Patana, Mahala, Dhinkia and Polanga village. After due procedure, close to 25 youth have been selected and their induction has been initiated. Interesting to note that 60 per cent among the selected youth are female.

 

Close on the heels of VLC engagement, JSW has started inviting applications from the youth in GadaKujang, Nuagaon and Dhinkia Gram Panchayats for various technical and non-technical positions across India in JSW associate companies such as ITMS, IBTS, TTPS & ICON security Dec 16, 2021. Candidates between the age group of 18 years to 29 years, with minimum 3 years’ experience in trades such as fitter, electrician, welder etc. are being encouraged to apply. Fresh as well as experienced candidates below 29 years are being encouraged to apply.

 

Besides, JSW is also collaborating with the administration for renovation of schools in the region and for upgradation of health services in the project site.
