New Delhi, 15/3 (AO Bureau) : A Delhi court has sentenced Ariz Khan to death for the murder of Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and other cases related to the 2008 Batla House encounter. The court termed the case as the rarest of a rare cases and sentenced convicted Ariz to be hanged. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 11 lakh on Ariz Khan. Also, the court has directed that 10 lakh rupees should be given to the family of Marhoom Inspector Sharma with immediate effect.
The police had requested the death penalty for Khan, allegedly associated with the terrorist organization ‘Indian Mujahideen’, and said that it was not only a case of murder but a murder of a law enforcement officer protecting justice. . After which the court has given this decision. Additional Public Prosecutor AT Ansari, appearing on behalf of the police, said that there is a need to give such punishment in this case, so that other people also learn and this punishment should be the death penalty. Khan’s lawyer opposed the death penalty.
On March 8, a Delhi court convicted Ariz Khan for the 2008 murder of Sharma and other crimes during the Batla House encounter. The court had said that it is proved that Ariz Khan and his associates fired on the police officer and killed him.
