OPGC Ltd. Hosts Technical Conclave on Adoption of Energy Efficient Technologies in Industries in Collaboration with EESL.

IB Thermal, December 7, 2024: Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (OPGC), in collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), on Wednesday organized a technical conference on “Advancing the Adoption of Energy Efficient Technologies in Industries” at the IB Thermal Power Station, Banharpali. The event brought together industry leaders, technology providers, and energy experts to explore innovations and strengthen the partnerships in implementing energy-efficient technologies with an objective to reduce carbon foot print.

The conference began with the registration of industry delegates from leading organizations, including EESL, NTPC, IIEC, RSPL, JSW BPSL, Vedanta Aluminium, Tata Steel, Adani, Aditya Birla, GMR and DB Power. Prominent technology providers namely SIEMENS, GE, AVEVA, Usha Neurons and Armstrong participated, reflecting a diverse pool of expertise.

 

Inaugural Session
The event officially commenced with a warm welcome address by Mr. Manas Ranjan Rout, MD of OPGC. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing for addressing energy sector challenges. He remarked, “This Technical Conclave, organized in collaboration with EESL, serves as a vital forum for exchanging knowledge, exploring cutting-edge technologies, and fostering partnerships. It is through events like these that we can collectively address the challenges being faced by the energy sector and seize opportunities for innovation and growth.”

Following the welcome address, The Chief Guest, Mr. Praveen Gupta, Member (Thermal), Central Electricity Authority, shared valuable insights on energy policy advancements and his valuable insights significantly contributed to the success of the event. Mr. Girija Shankar, General Manager-Technical, EESL, set the context for the conclave, emphasizing the potential of energy-efficient technologies.

Keynote addresses through virtual mode were delivered by distinguished speakers namely Mr. Ashok Kumar, Dy. Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency; Mr. Gurdeep Singh, CMD, NTPC; and Mr. Vishal Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy, Govt. of Odisha.

 

Panel Discussions and Technical Presentations
The second session featured a panel discussion on “Opportunities & Challenges in Adoption of Energy-Efficient Technologies and Energy Transition – Industry Perspectives.” Esteemed panelists included Mr. Girija Shankar, GM-technical, EESL, Mr. Hare Ram Singh, GM (O&M), NTPC Darlipali; Mr. Deepak Roy, CGM (Power), RSPL; Mr. Manoj Kumar Patwari, VP & CPP Zonal Head, JSW BPSL; Mr. Sunil Kumar Satya, CEO, Power, Vedanta Aluminium; Mr. Rajesh Agarwal, Chief of Power Utility, Tata Steel; and Mr. Manas Ranjan Rout, MD, OPGC.

Subsequent sessions involved technical presentations: On behalf of EESL, DGM Sanjeev Ranjan spoke on “EESL Initiatives and the DEEP Portal.” From OPGC, Sr. VP (Operations), Mr. Sukanta Mohapatra presented on “Empowering Sustainable Growth: A comprehensive overview of OPGC’s operations and innovation in Energy Efficiency.”

Representatives from technology providers like SIEMENS, GE, AVEVA, Usha Neurons and Armstrong shared case studies highlighting successful energy-efficient implementations. Industry delegates from NTPC, JPL, Aditya Birla, Vedanta, Adani, and GMR presented best practices, concluding with an engaging Q&A session.

The event ended with a felicitation of all participants, followed by a vote of thanks by Mr. Sukanta Mohapatra, Sr. VP (Operations), OPGC. The conclave reinforced the collective commitment toward a sustainable, energy-efficient future.
