Assam mine collapse: Kolkata General Manager of Coal India still hopeful of rescue

Assam: The Kolkata General Manager of Coal India has been pressed into the rescue operations of the Assam Mine collapse, said reports on Saturday. Rescue operations underway to save eight workers trapped in a coal mine in the Umrangso area. Sanjay Kumar, General Manager, Coal India, Kolkata told ANI, “As soon as we got the news, we were asked to come and give the maximum possible help. We got a new pump from Nagpur. Yesterday we tested the pump. The electrical power generator is ready. In the meantime, small pumps have also started.” He further added, “Water is also decreasing. Today we will try to make a platform and then we will lower the pipe. The preparatory job is ready, we are preparing the platform as soon as the platform is ready, we will load the pipes and try to start the pump. A special rescue team is also on standby…” The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF teams and other agencies are engaged in the rescue operations to rescue the nine people who were trapped in a coal mine at 3 three kilometers in Umrangso area in Assam’s Dima Hasao district since two days. The body of one of the nine workers has been recovered from the coal mine. Further reports added that as many as nine people have been feared trapped. According to reports, the workers were inside a coal mine in Umrangso area in Dima Hasao district in Assam when it allegedly collapsed.
